What Makes The Library Hostel Stand Out

The concept behind The Library Hostel is what sets it apart most clearly from other Nairobi accommodations. Founded by two women who identify as social entrepreneurs, the hostel was built around a love of books and a belief that reading transforms lives. A percentage of the property's profits goes toward supporting the Pamoja Library Foundation, a non-profit promoting literacy and education among children and youth in Tigania West, Kenya — meaning a stay here contributes, in a small way, to a cause well beyond the guest's own trip. Set in the quiet, tree-lined streets of Kileleshwa, the hostel offers a genuinely different pace than Nairobi's busier hostel scene. Each of the six rooms comes with a balcony and a dining area overlooking the garden, giving guests a peaceful outlook rarely found at this price point. A sun terrace, a picnic area, and a shared lounge round out the property's communal spaces, while a shared kitchen gives self-catering guests the freedom to prepare their own meals. Guests consistently highlight the property's cleanliness and quiet atmosphere as standout features, with several reviewers specifically praising how calm and well-maintained the hostel feels compared to other options in the city. The staff have earned a reputation for being amazing and welcoming, and the hostel's location is frequently described as both safe and convenient — qualities that matter enormously to solo travelers weighing where to stay in an unfamiliar city. Beyond the library itself, guests can enjoy themed dinner nights, darts, and board games, giving the property a genuinely social feel despite its intimate size. A buffet breakfast, with vegetarian and other dietary options available, is served daily, and free WiFi runs throughout the property. Private check-in and check-out services, along with a tour desk and luggage storage, add a layer of convenience more commonly associated with larger hotels than a six-room boutique hostel. The Kileleshwa location puts guests within reasonable reach of several of Nairobi's attractions. Yaya Centre is roughly 1.2 miles away, and Nairobi Arboretum is about a 1.1-mile or 18-minute walk from the property, offering a green escape for guests who want a break from the city. Shifteye Gallery, a notable spot for contemporary art, sits around 1.8 to 2.9 kilometers away depending on the route, and the Kenyatta International Conference Centre is a few kilometers further, reachable by a short taxi ride. For travelers who want more than just a bed for the night — who appreciate a property with a genuine story and a social mission behind it — The Library Hostel offers something distinctive in Nairobi's accommodation scene. Its combination of a peaceful, book-filled atmosphere, thoughtful communal spaces, and a contribution to literacy causes back in rural Kenya makes it a meaningful choice for socially conscious travelers, without sacrificing the comfort, cleanliness, and safety that any guest would want from their stay.
