A Local Animal Movement Permit is required by any person in Kenya who wishes to move livestock from one location to another — whether from or onto a farm, onto or over a public road, into or from a forest area, or onto government land. The permit is issued by the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) and is designed to control the spread of livestock diseases by tracking animal movements.
Before a permit is issued, the animals must be inspected by a DVS veterinary officer and vaccinated if necessary. An animal health certificate and vaccination certificate are issued alongside or prior to the movement permit.
