Holy See (Vatican) Apostolic Nunciature Nairobi — Address and Location

Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See in Kenya Address: Manyani Road West, off Waiyaki Way Postal address: P.O. Box 14326, 00800 Nairobi Phone: +254 20 214 8971 / 258 9703 Email: na.kenya@diplomat.va Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM & 2:00 PM–5:00 PM

The Apostolic Nunciature functions as the Holy See's embassy to Kenya, with the Apostolic Nuncio holding ambassadorial rank and additionally serving, in most appointments, as the Holy See's Permanent Observer to UNEP and UN-Habitat — both headquartered in Nairobi. Diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Kenya date to November 1965, shortly after Kenya's independence, making this one of the earlier diplomatic relationships Kenya established as a new state.

Beyond its formal diplomatic functions, the Nunciature serves as a coordinating point between the Vatican and Kenya's Catholic hierarchy, which is substantial given Kenya's large Catholic population and extensive network of dioceses, schools and hospitals run under Church administration. This dual role — diplomatic mission and ecclesiastical liaison — distinguishes the Nunciature from a typical bilateral embassy.

Kenyan citizens technically need a visa to enter Vatican City, though in practice travel to the Holy See is almost always handled as part of broader travel to Italy, given the Vatican's enclave location within Rome, and most travelers arrange this through Italian consular channels rather than directly through the Nunciature. For matters specifically involving the Holy See's diplomatic or ecclesiastical functions in Kenya — protocol matters, Church-state coordination, or Vatican-related correspondence — the Nunciature on Manyani Road West is the appropriate point of contact.
